My love for the polo-neck started from a very young age, as a child I was a big fan of the 'turtle-neck bodysuit', sounds gross, was hugely uncomfortable to wear, but looked super cool!
I used to match my hair bands (or bandages as some boys thought they were!) to my polo-necks. I believe I wore a polo-neck underneath my double corduroy ensemble for my confirmation...batting off the fellas with a stick, I was! Teamed with a pair of wine DM (doc martens, that is!) shoes that were two sizes too big for me...I never had size 8 feet, but you know, you need a bit of room to grow...they weren't a cheap shoe! I was the bees knees *shudder*.
When I was 14 I borrowed (stole) my big sisters stunning lavender Agnés B. mohair and angora polo-neck. It was the most beautiful soft fabric, it looked great with my flares from that AMAZING jean shop that was on Wicklow street...American Retro? American Vintage? Oh what was it called? It smelled like the 70's and had rails and rails of second hand jeans? I had graduated to matching my eyeshadow to my polo-necks, lavender and a nice white highlighter to accentuate the...brow bone and 'barely there' brows???! Anyway I was gorge! I then went on to match my hair to my polo-necks, getting pastel coloured extentions put in...ok I've said too much!
Back to the current polo-neck trend...there are so many styles around; from the fine knit styles that look great layered under dresses or just under a blazer or tucked into a suede skirt, to the oversized styles that work over a white shirt with skinny jeans or leather leggings and runners...you can literally wear polo-necks with/under anything!
Here are some of my fave ways to wear the polo for 2015!
Ticking off a couple of AW trend boxes here with the polo worn under this fab tunic top, keeping it simple in monochrome... nice look for work perhaps?
Simple Daytime sophistication... worn with skinnies over a crisp white shirt or tucked into mom jeans!
The Ultimate winter outfit...polo, coat, skinny jeans, cool boots...DREAMY!
I've just bought this fab cocoon polo from Asos, which I will be rocking with skinny jeans and boots...all winter long!
