I have always loved lace, crochet, laser cut, cut work or open knit detail on clothing: it really adds value to a piece and looks ultra feminine. A label that uses these design details to perfection is 'Self Portrait'. When the brand launched in 2013, I couldn't believe how stunning the dresses were (and reasonably priced). In the last eighteen months the label has gone from strength to strength and has gained a serious celeb following with every A-lister from Reese Witherspoon to 'Miss Chanel' Kristen Stewart being papped on the red carpet in one of Han Chong's gorgeous guná's!
I love how the campaigns are totally under-styled, Chong seems to go for quite an androgynous looking model to offset his ultra feminine dresses. Styling the pieces with chunky flatform sandals, minimal hair and make-up and natural light...a cool contrast to the 'perfectly coiffed' image that the celebs go for! It is seriously impressive that the Malaysian designer has been able to appeal to such a wide spectrum with his beautiful designs - now that's a successful business model!
Maje is another label that does the whole cut work design detail impeccably. I've had my eye on this skirt since the start of the season and finally caved and ordered it! It's expensive but I think this trend is here to stay. It is such a versatile skirt that would look as awesome with a t-shirt or cashmere sweater; as it would with a crop top or silk blouse for a special occasion! I will be posting a few different ways to wear it soon, so be sure to check back!
I've also sourced a couple of less expensive high street alternatives!
